$1 Billion Sony Franchise FIRED Miley Cyrus Over Sexually-Explicit…Cake

By CCN Markets: It’s not a good time to read about Sony. In the same week Spider-Man negotiations with Marvel fell through, Sony confirmed they fired Miley Cyrus from Hotel Transylvania over a cake. Specifically for buying a penis-shaped cake for her boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, in 2012. Miley was to voice Mavis, the main character. The role then went to another Disney Channel star, Selena Gomez.

Miley Cyrus told the story on Twitter

Miley made a Twitter thread stating the strangest things she’s done in her life. There’s some riské stuff, but nothing surprisingly bad. One of the entries claims Sony fired her from Hotel Transylvania – a series which has grossed over $1 billion dollars worldwide so far, over the shape of a cake.

And though there were a lot of nonsensical tweets just aimed at hurting her

A surprising amount of people answered positively

Possibly in defense of Sony’s actions, Cyrus claims that it wasn’t just the cake, but the fact that she also licked it. We hope she didn’t get too bothered for getting fired by a company that doesn’t believe cakes should go in one’s mouth.

What happened then?

Sony states that they wanted Miley for the film because she was popular among children. Makes sense as at that point, she was still Disney’s Hannah Montana for most people. Miley was growing up, wanted to make a name for herself and, as we now know, was about to seriously to shake things up. An event like this, even though private and unrelated to any professional project, was a departure from Sony’s vision for that role.

Wonder if Sony regrets it

Hotel Transylvania went on to make $145 million at the box office on an $85 million budget, so it was a modest success. Only a year after its release though, Miley Cyrus completely reinvented herself with the video for “Wrecking Ball”. You know the one.

Despite no penis imagery present, the video drew so much controversy it made her the most talked-about musician that year. It also showed the world there was more to Miley Cyrus than just Hannah Montana. Hotel Transylvania 2 opened 3 years later. It succeeded, but unlike most sequels, It didn’t make much more than the first film. Selena Gomez would too jump into superstardom later, but at that point, Miley owned the world. One can only imagine how much more money Hotel Transylvania would have made If Sony execs had had the guts to keep the most bankable star available for the role.
