A research lab within the U.S. Department of Energy has revealed it is exploring the application of blockchain in managing next-generation power grids. Researchers from several European universities have joined the Initiative for Cryptocurrencies and Contracts (IC3), a research effort set up to develop new cryptocurrency systems.
