New Coinbase Pro Mobile App Caters to Crypto Power Users

Coinbase is building a new mobile app for clients of its professional trading platform.

The U.S.-based crypto exchange announced the new product Thursday, claiming the app would provide Coinbase Pro customers with a more efficient mobile trading experience

Mobile trading has been one of the most-requested products from the company, Coinbase said in a blog post. Right now the app is only available on the Apple app store, though there are plans to bring it to Android.

“Until now, our customers have had to make a choice: usability or mobility,” the post said. “The Coinbase Pro mobile app changes this by offering the most intuitive feature set of any mobile crypto trading platform.”

Specifically, the app will offer customers real-time candles, depth charts, order books and other shortcuts. Traders will have access to the same features that Coinbase Pro offers its desktop users, the company says, including trading fees and pairs.

“No action requires more steps than it needs to, meaning traders can see prices, check their portfolios, and execute their orders faster than ever before,” the Coinbase blog post said, adding:

“Unlike traditional capital markets, crypto trades 24/7. Opportunities to buy and sell present themselves at all hours of the day. This means it’s critical for the sophisticated crypto traders that Coinbase Pro serves to have access to the tools and information they need to capitalize on these moments when and where they need it.”

Coinbase is the largest crypto exchange in the U.S. by volume, according to Bitwise’s Real 10 exchange list, conducting some $141 million in trades over the past 24 hours. The exchange already offers its retail customers an app that tracks prices and offers some services.

The new Pro app was built on React Native, and offers “a fully mobile-optimized experience,” Coinbase Pro product manager Linda Xie told CoinDesk, adding:

“All the features have been re-thought and rebuilt in a way that makes them not only usable, but useful.”
