(Not so) secret gems in the BTC.com wallet – The BTC Blog

A collection of unique and useful features that our users picked as their favorite.

In the recent weeks our team visited many events and conferences, which offered us the chance to survey cryptocurrency users about their favorite features in the BTC.com wallet.

1. Friend list

Most new users find it hard to deal with ever changing and hard to read bitcoin addresses. To make addresses more human friendly, we offer the option for mobile app users to send Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash directly to people in their mobile phone contacts. To use this feature, simply go to “Settings” in your mobile wallet and enable contacts. Once your friend does the same, you can send each other payments without the need to ask for each other’s addresses all the time.

2. Multi-signature protection

While the send to contact feature was most popular among new users and frequent senders, our 2–of-3 multisig set up was most often mentioned by experienced users. Luckily you don’t need to master cryptography to benefit from this feature. In our wallet your fund is connected to 3 private key seeds: 1 is encrypted in your wallet, 1 is given to you on your back up PDF and 1 is at BTC.com. You always need 2 keys to authorize a payment from your wallet.

This means that BTC.com can never make any payment from your account, but when we notice any suspicious activity, we “pause” outgoing payments to protect your funds. Of course you, as a real user, can immediately un-freeze your account and continue making payments. Good to know that your wallet looks out for itself even when you sleep!

3. Show me the money!

In the BTC.com wallet you can see exactly how much a transaction was worth when it came in (or went out) and how much it’s worth right now. This can bring some happy or not-so-happy moments, depending on how your investment went, but it gives you a great insight about how your account balance changed over time. Plus, since the wallet is integrated with the BTC.com Block Explorer, you can find all information you need to know about where your money came from and where it headed.
