The UN Children’s Fund wants to use crypto-mining to collect funds for the humanitarian aid of Syrian children. The donations are intended to provide vital goods and medicines.
The aid organization Unicef has launched a project under the name “Game Chaingers”, with the aim of collecting money to support Syrian children through crypto-mining. Unicef provides chaingers.io mining clients (download) on the website that use shader cores of graphics cards to mine the cryptocurrency Ethereum.
According to the UN organization, donors would no longer have to spend “a single euro” to support Unicef. Of course, electricity costs are incurred – according to the organization, no more than in the presentation of a computer game. Currently, the project has a compute power of around 230 MH / s. The donations are intended to provide vital goods and medicines.
Unicef speaks to the action directly PC players and the e-sports community, as this group have a particularly large number of powerful graphics cards. The United Nations Children’s Fund was founded in 1946 and is currently working primarily in developing countries, providing humanitarian aid to needy children and mothers. However, Unicef was already criticized for mismanagement.
