The US Treasury Department made the surprise announcement on Monday that Secretary Steven Mnuchin would hold a press conference to address cryptocurrency regulation.
Mnuchin’s press conference, which began around 2 pm ET, comes amid a flurry of controversy triggered by Facebook’s announcement that it would spearhead a cryptocurrency project, dubbed “Libra.”
Even President Trump weighed in on the controversy, ranting that he is “not a fan” of Facebook’s LIbra ambitions – or bitcoin, for that matter.
